Why Ash & Honey

Ash & Honey was born from rebuilding after loss — the ash of what remained, and the honey of what came after.

Formerly Ash & Honey Botanique. A name settles into what a thing already is. You may still see "Botanique" on a few labels while stock turns over — same stillroom, same 1871 Standard, same maker underneath.

The Ash & Honey 1871 Apothcary Philosophy

Ash & Honey 1871 Apothecary started with a simple refusal: nothing goes into a tin that can't earn its place. Every oil is cold-pressed. Every ingredient traces back to something with real, documented use before industrial chemistry took over — no synthetics, no fillers, no petroleum derivatives, nothing manufactured to imitate what the earth already does well.
no petroleum derivatives, nothing manufactured to imitate what the earth already does well. Because real ingredients don't care about artificial demographics, every formula we create is unisex.

That's the 1871 Standard, and it isn't a slogan. It's a test every ingredient has to pass twice: is it real, and is it safe. Natural doesn't get a pass just for being natural. Historical doesn't get a pass just for being old. Everything here is here because it was checked, not because it sounded good.
The same standard carries into Ash & Honey: The Root & The Road, our podcast — grown from two earlier shows, Ash & Honey (history and practice) and The Root & The Road (history and medicinal use), now combined into one. It still covers both. But it also turns a critical eye on the modern wellness industry: what's actually being sold right now, how it compares to how things were historically done, and what genuinely holds up — what's safe, what's reasonable, what's worth doing today.

The podcast is where we think through all of it out loud. Not a class. Not a pitch. Just the same questions we ask in the stillroom, asked in front of you. If listening's not your thing, the Stillroom Dispatch covers more specific to our products in writing — shorter, faster, same honesty.

Ingredients & Allergen Info

All Ash & Honey 1871 Apothecary products are handmade in small batches using natural, plant- and mineral-based ingredients — no synthetic fillers, no manufactured compounds.
Many of our formulas include sweet almond oil, raw honey, and beeswax as core carriers and structural ingredients. Several also include bee pollen, which is called out individually on any product page where it's present, since it's a well-known allergen.
Please review the full ingredient list on each product page before use. If you have a known sensitivity to tree nuts, honey or other bee products, or any specific botanical, check ingredients carefully first. As with any new skincare or bath product, we recommend a patch test before full use.
If you have questions about a specific formula or ingredient, reach out — we're happy to walk through what's in anything we make.
